I don’t disagree with you, especially about the “elite level” part of it. For example, AP Psych counted for GE but not a major support for him, same with APUSH, AP GOV, AP Spanish, AP Human Geo, AP Euro, etc. There were several levels of Physics needed in the major support as well as chemistry and Calc, so AP’s don’t knock them ... It is a completely integrated academic, professional, and social experience. Its the gold standard for a engineering org. Slo is better for immediate hiking as UCLA is in westwood, a nice small college town in its own right. However the beach is close by as are some good hiking trails. School size is very different - SDSU has 33,000 faculty and staff and SLO has 19,000 so its a much bigger campus.
